December, the final month of the year, the month that always causes me contemplation! Every year in the holiday rush, it hits me, what did I accomplish? This past year, I decided, no preconceived ideas! Be different, see something different and meet different people.
First step, visit a country completely off my travel radar. Second step, talk husband into first step and tell him the country. Luckily, I have an understanding husband who joined me on an unforgettable journey to Uzbekistan.
In Uzbekistan, my passion for handmade work was renewed. The textiles, carvings and ceramics are exquisite. I couldn’t wait to photograph some of them at work. Now is where the key words “be different” came into play. I won’t obsess about trying to get the perfect photograph. I will just take the pictures and accept that some will be okay and some won’t.
Things are looking up; I have already accomplished two things on the list! The last item fell into place easily. I met young people, old people, professionals, farmers, artists, teachers and so many more. We didn’t always understand each other, but a smile is universal in any language.
One country off the radar turned into a second and third: Uzbekistan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. I hope you will stop by from time to time and see what adventures the new year brings.
